Those are sustained winds of up to 26 mph. It’s gusting the 35-40. This is the backside of the low pressure system that brought the threat of tornadoes to the southeast today.

We were pushing 60-70 MPH in Michigan last weekend.
Was crazy.

The radar looks like there's a hurricane over Texarkana. Rotation and all.

We’re expecting 10-15mph sustained, with possible gusts up to 300mph overnight.

Let’s hope for the former and not the latter.

I was worried that when the Weather Channel bought it that it would get lame. But that hasn’t happened—yet. Their smartphone app is excellent also. I gladly pay for an annual subscription.

Oops. I see now that you meant the wind site. Yes. It's awesome.

Wunderground is one of the sites that I have set to autoload when I fire up Chrome in the morning. Didn’t realize the Weather Channel had bought them.

Ah! My old stomping ground. I lived in Oak Park back in the 70s. It’s a great city. My family may be vacationing there this summer.

Maybe it’s been so long that I forgot that it happened - ha!

Neat. Really calm here now but I believe that system is supposed to bring me a foot of snow tomorrow.
I’m looking forward to it and am tempted to head out early and ski all day, though that might leave me a hairy drive home.

Indeed! I used to be in WI for a small number of months, but now I actually have my own apartment near the lake.
Oh and the wind speed was recorded at O’Hare...can’t imagine that was a very fun day for that airport.

Despite El Niño, we have had a terribly dry winter here in TX. And warm, too. This is the coolest it’s been in a while, and we actually got almost 1.5" of rain last night.

My parents were divorced, and my father lived in VA. My brother and I went through O’Hare many times. I credit those trips, flying just the two of us, for sparking my love of aviation and airports. On one trip to Chicago with my wife 20-some years ago, we spent an afternoon just hanging out at the airport. We had a couple of drinks at the Seven Continents lounge. I wonder if it’s still there. Great place to watch planes and sip a drink.

This makes for awful cross country weather. (In a Cessna)

I’m sure there’s a pretty nasty xwind at AUS today. I should have headed down to watch the show.

DAB and AUS both are reading 23kt gusts at the station.

Gusts overnight here are supposed to be upwards of 35-40 mph. No idea waht that is in kts.

The station reported 28 mph. So, close enough really. There is some variation in them.

I can remember flying 707s out of O’Hare and the pilot spooling up the engines against the brakes to maximize acceleration, or minimize takeoff roll, or whatever.
